Frequently Asked Question
We're seeing an occasional issue under the latest versions of Windows 10 where the computer will ocassionally connect to a WiFi network, but claim that there's no network connection.
When this is going on, in the notification area of the taskbar (lower right corner of the screen), instead of seeing the WiFi symbol:
You get the little globe with a no-sign:
So far, we've been able to reliably resolve this issue by connecting to a different WiFi network (ECCSS-CONFIG would work well for this, since it's already added on your laptops, and ECCSS-Guest will work if the other isn't available), then reconnecting to ECCSS. For whatever reason, that seems to fix this issue.
After connecting to the other network, please be certain to reconnect to the ECCSS WiFi network. Don't continue to use ECCSS-Guest or ECCSS-CONFIG for normal tasks, as you may experience slowness or other issues.
If you see the issue on your home WiFi or with a personal computer, you can try enabling and then connecting to your phone's hotspot, if you have that capability.
It seems this might be related to a bug in a recent Windows update, because it suddenly became a big issue in early December 2019. We can't be certain about this, but it seems very likely, as it's been observed both on personal computers and on school-owned devices on a variety of WiFi networks.
Please try the above troubleshooting step if you see this issue, and if you're still having trouble after that, please submit a ticket using your iPad.
